Tama The Cat- The Station Master

Tama the Cat is a cute cat that is "working" as station master in Kishi, Wakayama, Japan. This 14 years old cat has been the official station master for this train station since 2007. Kishi train station is scheduled to be closed due to lack of passengers. Tama's story begins when the station master, Toshiko Koyama took care of Tama and all the cats that are lived in the station.

The cuteness of Tama which is from the Colico breed makes passengers to visit the station and feeding him. Due to his popularity, the numbers of passengers visiting Kishi have rise rapidly. So, as a reward to Tama, he is honoured with the post as station master of Kishi.

Since that day, Tama has an office and visitors can watch him "working" there. The management of the train station also produced Densha Tama, a specially made train that is covered with its cartoon.

The look of Kishi train station also has been changed to look alike a cat. Now, Tama has aged and in 2012, Nitama, another cat is appointed as an apprentice to Tama. Tama and Nitama "worked" in a shift in this station. Aww!!
