I have met 4 of my friends that have a tendency to be frighten whey they saw a cat. They fear it as it will do any harms to them. Some of them said that they are not afraid but they just feel that it's really gross. Seriously?
Do you really think that this creature is scary or gross?
To add another fact to that, they are all females. I have never met a guy that is showing that kind of thing. I don' t know if they fake it in front of me just to keep cool but for now, my theory is it's true that it only happens to girls. At least from experiences.
I have to Google it. So, this thing has a name. It is called Ailurophobia. From Wikipedia, it states that the phobia manifests itself in different ways. For most people it is
less about fear than about loathing, similar to the reaction many people
have to snakes or rats. Some people experience it almost all the time,
others just in response to direct stimuli. Some possible situations that
can trigger the loathing of cats are: hearing purring, seeing a cat in
real life, imagining the possibility of a cat touching or rubbing
against one, the thought of meeting a cat in the dark, cats in pictures
and on television, and cat-like toys and cat-like fur.
So, this thing is more like disgust than fear. But, I cannot wrap the idea of disgusting when you are talking about cats. To be fair, we are not created to act or express that same way. So, I just can hope that when this type of people where I want to call them as CATERS - cat haters can confront their fear of disgust and avoid in harming this poor creatures.
I have saw an incident where Caters are shocked and kicked the cat. This is really wrong! To blame them 100% is unfair due to the lack of mens rea, but I think if it's really toward that extent, they should do something about it.
There are treatments from this kind of fear. It is usually carried out by a psychiatrist or other therapy specialist. In one case, a one strongly motivated patient was able to recover by slowly becoming
accustomed to cat fur by first touching varying types of velvet, then
becoming accustomed to a toy kitten, and finally a live kitten which the
patient subsequently adopted.
Another fact is cats can sense if you like them or not. To boggle your mind, if they sense that you dislike them, they will go for you. Don't know why but it is really cute.
To Caters out there, I am not judging you but cat is really loveable if you know their true nature. I just hope you can join the team eventually.
p/s: hope that we all can love cat. to dog lovers, you should try too. :)
